An editorial titled "Rendell's State Budget a Solid Start" in the Erie Times-News [PA] mentions the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts as one of the eight Governor's Schools of Excellence that will be cut under Governor Rendell's proposed budget.
The Governor's School for the Arts, held every summer for 19 years at Mercyhurst College, would be out of the picture for 2009
....
Programs that Rendell supports, like the
Governor's Schools of Excellence, could return in later years if the
economy improves. The five-week program at Mercyhurst teaches visual
arts, music, theater, dance and creative writing. In July 2008, 200
students from across the state, including five from Erie, were admitted.
