			<title>NJ - GS for Public Issues</title>
			<link>http://ncogs.org/web/index.php/In-the-News/NJGS-foreclose</link>
			<description>
An editorial titled Governor's School Cuts Foreclose on NJ's Future Leaders (http://blog.nj.com/njv_guest_blog/2010/02/governors_school_cuts_foreclos.html) in The Star-Ledger, written by an alumna of the New Jersey Governor's School for Public Issues, criticizes the decision to close two New Jersey Governor's Schools as willingness &amp;ndash; on the part of both Democrats and Republicans &amp;ndash; to sap the state&amp;rsquo;s future vitality in order to save a buck.

	For those of us fortunate enough to fall into its orbit-- I attended 17
	years ago-- GSPI was transformative. GSPI was the first place I had
	ever been where people talked seriously about the possibilities and
	limitations of politics, where people took seriously Aristotle&amp;rsquo;s idea
	that humans are political animals &amp;ndash; which means that even though
	political life may be frustrating at times, politics is the
	rough-and-tumble art by which we can make our collective lives better.

			<title>MO - Scholars &amp; Fine Arts Academies</title>

			<description>
An article titled Students Push for Gifted Education (http://www.komu.com/satellite/SatelliteRender/KOMU.com/ba8a4513-c0a8-2f11-0063-9bd94c70b769/8b4cfbd8-80ce-0971-0007-dc44a693873f) on the local NBC affiliate KOMU-TV Website highlights the supportive testimony alumni of the Missouri Scholars Academy are providing to the Missouri legislature.

	With a state budget that has little room for
	extras, the question of cutting public funding for these programs has
	been on the table for awhile. Hatfield and Misra, who both attended the
	Missouri Scholars Academy and feel it helped shape their plans for the
	future and perceptions of statewide academic opportunities, wanted to
	make sure that public funding continues so students don't have to pay
	for the program. They feel that if that was the case, less students
	would be able to attend.

			<title>AR - Arkansas Governor's School</title>

			<description>
An article titled MSU Loses Governor's Scholars (http://www.trailblazeronline.net/index.php?option=com_content view=article id=1807:msu-loses-governors-scholars catid=42:news Itemid=70) in Morehead State University's Trail Blazer announces MSU's recent loss in bidding to host the Arkansas Governor's School and highlights the value of hosting the program in terms of AGS alumni enrollment in the host institution.

	&amp;ldquo;We are disappointed to not be hosting GSP for the next cycle. MSU&amp;rsquo;s
	best marketing strategy is to get students on campus, Jeffery Liles,
	assistant vice president of enrollment services, said. We promote open
	houses and campus tours heavily, but the Governor&amp;rsquo;s Scholars Program
	was the best way for students to really get on campus and experience
	what we have to offer.&amp;rdquo;

	Before MSU was a host campus for GSP less than 20 alumni were enrolled. In the four years that Morehead was a host campus that number rose to over 100 GSP alumni Liles said.
