An editorial titled "Governor's School Cuts Foreclose on NJ's Future Leaders" in The Star-Ledger, written by an alumna of the New Jersey Governor's School for Public Issues, criticizes the decision to close two New Jersey Governor's Schools as "willingness – on the part of both Democrats and Republicans – to sap the state’s future vitality in order to save a buck."
For those of us fortunate enough to fall into its orbit-- I attended 17
years ago-- GSPI was transformative. GSPI was the first place I had
ever been where people talked seriously about the possibilities and
limitations of politics, where people took seriously Aristotle’s idea
that humans are political animals – which means that even though
political life may be frustrating at times, politics is the
rough-and-tumble art by which we can make our collective lives better.
